Tourism Meets Technology at the Web-Check Challenge Awards 2009

Rounding off 2009 Fáilte Ireland’s e-Business initiative held the Web Check Challenge Awards in December which saw Nicholas Ryan, General Manager and Mary Powell, Marketing Manager of the Cromleach Lodge, pick up €6,000 worth of business supports.

 

The aim of the Web-Check Challenge was to recognise small to medium tourism enterprises that have demonstrated exceptional learning, creativity and innovation following participation in Fáilte Ireland’s e-Business Support Initiative – Web-Check – by further developing their website and implementing practical measures to create e-business solutions for their businesses. 

Cromleach Lodge scooped the top prize of €6,000 worth of business supports which includes e-marketing, offline marketing, financial and business planning consultancy, annual membership of the IIA (Irish Internet Association), B&B and Dinner for two at Dunboyne Castle and the Web-Check Challenge Award.

The remaining four finalists which included Ballyhoura Fáilte, Limerick, Glendine House Clonakilty; Decoy Country Cottages, Trim and Xtreme Ireland Adventures, Dublin each received the Web-Check Challenge Runners-Up Award and €1,000 worth of business supports.

Speaking at the awards Stephen Dudley Fáilte Ireland E-Business Development Manager explained – “We were delighted to see such a tremendous response from the tourism industry to the competition. The initiative is an important partnership between Fáilte Ireland and the tourism industry and we will continue to work with industry into 2010 to encourage small and medium tourism businesses to be more efficient in their use of the web as a valuable business tool.”

Fáilte Ireland’s e-Business support initiative is provided in three phases:

WEB-CHECK involves a tailored review of your website conducted initially on the telephone but followed by an on-site consultation.

WEB-CHECK PLUS comprises a defined package of e-marketing and social networking on-site support.

WEB-SKILLS programme provides training focused on developing your capabilities to enhance the business profile and techniques to optimise online sales.
